VERITAINER RECEIVES ITS 5TH PATENT FROM THE U.S. PATENT OFFICE
US Patent number 7,661,738 covers VeriTainer's proprietary shock absorption system
February 24th, 2010 - Fremont, CA - Silicon Valley based VeriTainer Corporation; the world leader in crane mounted maritime security solutions, has received its fifth patent, and second in the last three months, based on its crane mounted scanning product, the VeriSpreader®. The "738" patent covers the shock absorption system used to isolate the gamma and neutron detectors embedded within the VeriSpreader System.
"It was originally thought that crane mounted scanning was not feasible due to the high shock environment on the crane and the impact that would have on the laboratory equipment needed to perform spectroscopic analysis," said John Alioto, CEO of VeriTainer. "Through trials extending over two years, at three ports and five different terminals, VeriTainer has demonstrated conclusively that this is not the case," Alioto went on to say.
The '738 patent is the fifth to be issued to the VeriTainer Corporation since the company was founded in 2003. In addition to utilizing the '738 technology in the VeriSpreader®, the Company may license the technology for other complementary applications.
"This technology allows for high-performance shock mounting in a compact radiation detection unit. The VeriSpreader® has run for nearly two years at several different ports with no detector failures," said Matthew Alioto, VP of Technology and inventor of the '738 patent. "This port-tested technology has been proven in the field."

The Journal of Commerce Online - Press Release
U.S. Patent No. 7,612,338 Covers Container Identification Method In Radiation Scanning
November 3, 2009 - Fremont, CA – Silicon Valley based VeriTainer Corporation, the world leader in crane- mounted maritime container radiation scanning, has received its fourth patent on its crane- mounted scanning product, the VeriSpreader ® System. The '338 patent utilizes the twist lock signal from the real-time container monitoring system of the crane to distinguish which container is being scanned at what time and associate radiation data to a particular container.
VeriTainer is the only company in the world that has run comprehensive tests in the field, with over 15 months of testing in two highly successful trials at the Port of Oakland.
"The '338 patent is a very significant piece of intellectual property for VeriTainer," said John I. Alioto, CEO of VeriTainer Corporation. "In addition to demonstrating unparalleled robustness, our engineers implemented key operational techniques for real time data monitoring in the Oakland trials. The '338 patent is the first in a series of patents that will come out of the 2005 and 2007 Oakland trials."
The '338 patent is the fourth to issue in the United States covering VeriTainer's innovative crane-mounted scanning system. These patents have been filed in most jurisdictions around the world and cover the world's top 50 container ports. These patents give VeriTainer the fundamental crane- mounted scanning methods and apparatuses in key international jurisdictions.
"It would be very challenging to come up with a real-time method for effectively separating the scans and matching them to a container without utilizing the twist lock signal," said Matthew Alioto, VP of Engineering and co-inventor of the '338 patent. "The technical team at VeriTainer continues to innovate at a brisk pace while patenting after our engineers. I'm very pleased with the both issuance of the '338 and what we have in the pipeline on the Intellectual Property side."
VERITAINER PARTNERS WITH ERUDITE TO
EXPAND PORT SECURITY - NUCLEAR SCANNING CAPABILITY
October 30, 2008 - PRNewswire - TACOMA, WA and SAN FRANCISCO - Erudite, Inc., a technology innovator in cargo security and counter-terrorism technology, and VeriTainer Corporation, the world leader in crane mounted maritime security solutions, announced today that they are teaming up to deploy Synchronous Vibrational Cargo Imaging(TM) (SVCI) to safely detect nuclear shielding materials hidden in cargo containers. The powerful combination of VeriTainer's patented VeriSpreader® crane mounted scanning solution and Erudite's SVCI brings together two unique, safe, and highly effective homeland security technologies to protect the world's ports by detecting nuclear materials hidden in cargo containers.
VeriTainer and Erudite have formed an exclusive partnership whereby they will combine their revolutionary technologies to maintain an efficient and cost effective flow of commerce in the world's shipping marketplace. VeriTainer will market Erudite's SVCI worldwide as an integral part of its VeriSpreader® radiation detection system.
"Erudite's Synchronous Vibrational Cargo Imaging (SVCI) technology will be seamlessly integrated into the VeriSpreader® system, the only field-tested solution of its kind, allowing for a clear and redundant confirmation of whether a container has nuclear material inside," stated Dr. Les Atlas, acoustics authority and professor at the University of Washington. "SVCI acoustic technology, when fully deployed, will be able to create a footprint of the materials contained within a container. In addition to shielding determination, this may permit us to compare the container's contents to the shipping manifest and determine whether unauthorized materials are on board," Atlas continued.
"With SVCI acoustic technology, no one will need to worry that nuclear materials, hidden within high-density shielding materials, are making their way onto our shores," said Erudite CEO John Anderson.
"Adding Erudite's SVCI technology provides shippers, carriers, ports, customs and homeland security organizations with an undisputed, independent confirmation of our detection results. The cooperative development of this technology further solidifies VeriTainer's place as the world-class innovator of maritime security solutions," said VeriTainer CEO John I. Alioto.
SVCI is a new technique for Non-Intrusive Interrogation / Imaging (NII), but unlike active radioactive-scanning methods like x-ray, muon, and gamma-ray systems, SVCI uses safe, non-ionizing, acoustic energy to find high-density materials. It is the only NII method for detecting nuclear shielding material that does not require containers and port personnel to be exposed to harmful ionizing radiation. Just as seamlessly as VeriTainer's VeriSpreader® scans containers moving to and from cargo ships, Erudite's SVCI technology and its non-intrusive footprint will be completely automated, will not require additional personnel, will not impede cargo velocity, and will not require the allocation of additional space for vitalized equipment.

VERITAINER SHIELDING DETECTION PATENT
ISSUED IN SINGAPORE
World Leader in Crane Mounted Nuclear and Radiological Container Scanning
Expands into Nuclear Shielding Detection
September 29, 2008 - PRNewswire / SAN FRANCISCO - VeriTainer Corporation, the world leader in crane mounted maritime security solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a very important new patent in Singapore. This patented technology opens a new chapter in the company's efforts to provide the safest, most effective and efficient maritime security products to protect against potential "dirty bombs" and international terrorism. The addition of new specialized radiological detection technology to the already highly successful 'VeriSpreader®' container scanning equipment, offers a solution to international safety, security and privacy concerns raised in the European Union and in the United States. Patent No. 136998 in the Singaporean Registry of Patents entitled "Inverse Ratio of Gamma-Ray and Neutron Emissions in the Detection of Radiation Shielding in Containers" was announced by the Singapore Patent Office last week. The grant date started March 31, 2008.
"VeriTainer is firmly committed to seamless, accurate 100% nuclear and radiological scanning of every shipping container worldwide," said VeriTainer Chairman and CEO John I. Alioto. "This new patent introduces a new product in the company's suite of maritime security solutions -- automatic shielding discovery in passive radiation scanning. It highlights our role as a critical layer for detection of nuclear sources and shielding that might be used to hide them. Now we are moving forward with zero operational impact shielding determination as well. As with all of our Intellectual Property, we have filed applications in virtually every cooperative jurisdiction around the world, and we are very pleased to receive this patent award, especially from Singapore, which boasts the largest single port in the world."
The VeriSpreader® System is a crane mounted radiation detection solution (CMS), which is seamlessly integrated into the spreader bar of the container crane. Portside cranes are the natural operational portal through which all incoming and outgoing containers must pass. The VeriSpreader® System is perfectly situated for high volume, zero impact, primary scans of the radioactive contents of each container because it is the only solution in the market that does not slow the rapid movement of freight. Today's award is based on VeriTainer's fundamental U.S. Patent No. 7,116,235 "Inverse Ratio of Gamma-Ray and Neutron Emissions in the Detection of Radiation Shielding in Containers." VeriTainer has two other issued patents fundamental to the crane-mounting scanning solution and several other patents pending.
Concerning the new Singapore patent, Lawrence Alioto, Executive VP of VeriTainer said, "One of the biggest concerns in the market is the unreliability, safety concerns and operational difficulties of x-ray imaging containers for shielding materials. X-ray imaging is extraordinarily difficult in any port setting. In a very high volume transshipment port like Singapore it is almost impossible. Automated real time shielding determination, done passively with the use of software, is the only way forward as it the addresses throughput, efficacy, cost and safety concerns inherent in active NII scanning."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (EMBARGOED UNTIL 6am October 16th, 2007)
QINETIQ NORTH AMERICA TEAMS WITH VERITAINER CORPORATION
TO BRING RADIATION SCANNING TO THE WORLD'S PORTS
October 16, 2007 - McLEAN, VA - QinetiQ North America (QNA) announced today that it has teamed with VeriTainer Corporation to provide its radiation scanning solution to ports around the globe. VeriTainer Corp., based in Fremont, CA, has developed the VeriSpreader®, a crane-mounted device that scans containers in real time for dangerous radiation as they are being loaded and unloaded from container ships, achieving a critical balance of high security and the free flow of commerce.
This teaming agreement couples VeriTainer's technology with QNA's systems engineering and data analysis capability to deliver leading-edge scanning technology to the world's ports. The agreement follows VeriTainer's two highly successful pilot projects. The Oakland test program conclusively demonstrated the efficiency of this technology and its design, as more than 20,000 containers have successfully been scanned without disruption to operations as they entered the Port of Oakland. Earlier this year, the VeriSpreader® was awarded "Qualified Anti-Terrorist Technology ("QATT")" designation status by the Department of Homeland Security for developmental testing and evaluation.
Leading the way in innovation, VeriTainer and QinetiQ hold the first solution capable of addressing the significant challenges associated with integrating scanning into transhipment and on-dock rail operations. VeriTainer's crane based solution eliminates the long dwell time between entry and scanning being experienced at many US ports. In the United States, recent legislation signed by President Bush requires 100 percent scanning of all containers inbound to the U.S. by 2012. Now, for the first time, governments, the maritime industry, and other key stakeholders have a physically secure scanning technology which requires no manning, making 100% port of origin and port of destination scanning feasible.
"VeriTainer has proven that its crane-based detection system works and we believe it accomplishes primary scanning in the most accurate and efficient way since the lift period offers a long dwell time for the sensors to read the cargo container" said Rob Topping, QNA's President and Chief Operating Officer. "Combining VeriTainer's technology with our ability to deliver solutions to port and Homeland Security customers is an important part of our strategy to employ innovative, best-in-class technologies, both from inside QinetiQ and from our partners."
"This is a valuable relationship," said John Alioto, Chairman and CEO of VeriTainer. "With the global reach of the QinetiQ Group we will be able to assist governments and port personnel around the world in their efforts to find the most cost-effective solution to this potential terrorist threat. In QinetiQ, we have the partner that can help us deliver integrated solutions worldwide."

February 4, 2007 ST. HELENA / SAN DIEGO, CA - VeriTainer, Corporation the only company offering crane-mounted container radiation scanning technology, and APS Technology Group, a leading provider of shipping industry OCR (optical character recognition) solutions used worldwide, have just announced that they will join forces to offer the freight industry the perfect solution for identifying containers while protecting against the threat of radiation and terrorist activities.
VeriTainer recently announced a 60-day test launch at the Port of Oakland in November 2006, which will further prove the viability of its VeriSpreader® technology as the perfect answer to our nation's vulnerability to nuclear attack via shipping containers. The VeriSpreader®, a scanning device which is the only "crane-mounted" secutrity solution of its kind, is on the cutting edge of homeland security technology, having the capacity to analyze every container passing through a shipping terminal without delaying the flow of commerce.
APS Technology is at the forefront of the shipping industry with specialized OCR solutions that identify and track cargo containers. Their Crane OCR System automates the process of manually verifying shipping containers as they are loaded or unloaded from a ship, train or truck.
VeriTainer CEO John Alioto says, "This agreement aligns two of the most technologically advanced firms providing port security in the United States. VeriTainer's crane-based radiation scanning and APS Technology's crane-based container OCR permits automated radiation scanning and identification of each and every container that is loaded or unloaded in American ports. Today we are providing these two technologies in the U.S. Tomorrow we'll provide them in ports all over the globe."
"Our software coordinates seamlessly with the breakthrough technology of the VeriSpreader®," states Russell Scheppmann, President of APS. "The partnership of APS and VeriTainer will deliver unprecedented results to clients with the most effective system yet."
During standard loading and unloading of containers, the combined system works without affecting other operations. Each container is scanned for radiation while the APS OCR System captures images of the equipment numbers on each container and recognizes the unit using specialized OCR software. The results of both processes are then collected and transmitted wirelessly. The joint system is the only viable solution that provides 100% scanning, bringing the success rate for scanning from 60% to virtual flawlessness.
